Why does my summoned combat pet sometimes disappear?

If you happen to get too far away from your pet, it may automatically despawn. This can happen if your pet is in combat and you run too far out of range. Pets will automatically follow you into instances or across continents, but you will need to resummon them after using a gryphon or windrider.
