Guitar Hero to Woo World of Warcraft Fans with "I Am Murloc"
Ah, Murlocs. What self-respecting World of Warcraft player doesn't hate them? (Except for the little ones, they're kinda cute.) Now that Activision (creators of Guitar Hero) and Blizzard (creators of World of Warcraft) are the same company, it's not surprising that the developers of both games would look to the popularity of the other to draw in more players.
Activision announced today that they would be releasing the hit song by the in-game World of Warcraft-themed band Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain, "I Am Murloc" to Xbox 360 and PS3 Guitar Hero III players as a free download.
Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain (L70ETC) released the song, "I Am Murloc" to the delight of fans at the 2005 BlizzCon in California. World of Warcraft players are more than familiar with the band and murlocs. In fact, many of us go back to murloc infested areas just to kill the little buggers. The song itself is pretty good, even if you're not totally sure what a murloc is. You can watch the video here.
Now that the merger between Activision and Blizzard is complete, it makes sense that the newly formed company would take every opportunity to cross-pollenate the fan bases of both popular games with elements from both properties. With any luck, World of Warcraft fans might log out long enough to head over to the console and play Guitar Hero, and Guitar Hero fans who enjoy the song are encouraged to sign up for a 10-day free trial of World of Warcraft to see the world that spawned the song, and a band like L70ETC .
Guitar Hero players interested in downloading the song will be able to snag it from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the Playstation Store online beginning tomorrow. The announcement is being made not just to delight fans of both games, but also to bring attention to the Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational event on June 28th and 29th in Paris.
