WoW Hunter Against Shamans

Shamans

Shamans come in three varieties: ranged (elemental), melee (enhancement), and healing (resto).

Against all types, we can use our pet to take down totems as soon as they're created. Totems can do damage, slow opponents, absorb spells, enhance attacks, cure poison, etc., so they must be destroyed immediately. Furthermore, all shamans will attempt to keep us in close close through use of shocks or even totems, and thus they must be kited to some degree.

Elemental/Enhancement Spec
DPS shamans can be kited using the usual methods since they have no intercept or movement-enhancing methods (apart from ghost wolf, which has a casting time). Stay well out of range to avoid frost shock or earthbind totems. Kiting is particularly important against shamans since their totems are static and thus cannot move with them while they chase us. Use silencing shot, scatter, and feign death to interrupt spells.

Resto Spec
Like all healers, resto shamans can either be DPS'd down quickly, or mana drained. Typically, the draining method involves using aspect of the viper and viper sting, in conjunction with a scorpid and/or snake trap to prevent poison cleansing. Don't waste mana DPSing the shaman while draining him, since the goal is to get the shaman to run out of mana before we do. If the shaman is avoiding snake traps, consider using wing clip or scatter to keep him in place while laying a trap, and/or use silencing shot to delay him from cleansing. Of course, be quick about destroying poison cleansing totems.

Note that you can fear shamans while they're in ghost wolf form. Shamans are particularly effective in ghost wolf form pre-40's as flag carriers since they can outrun most other classes -- once they are in the open, they are extremely difficult to catch up to without a mount. Assuming you catch up to a shaman in ghost wolf form and are not confident in being able to take him down quickly before he runs away, consider slowing him in some way and then fearing him. This can give your allies time to catch up (assuming he runs in an appropriate direction).
